ithaca project 1
A place to write and dream
Ithaca, New York
Status: Completed
For some a treehouse is a very special play set, for others it's a place to retreat and re-emerge reborn. For Colleen and Katie, two teenage sisters with a passion for writing, their treehouse was designed to offer a quiet place for sisters to create and a safe place from which their genius can spread out into the world. With a sleeping loft, an outdoor pond-side deck and future cable-bridge entry, this 240-square-foot treehouse should be a worthy muse. Main construction was completed in late autumn 2010.

  horseheads pirate ship
Capt. Jack's flying pirate ship
Horseheads, New York
Status: Completed
Combine an 8-year-old boy and a healthy Norway maple -- both with lots of personality -- and what do you get? You get a 100-square-foot pirate ship 10 feet off the ground. The tree offered a great triangular space above two low branches on the south side of the main trunk, and Jack along with parents Amy and Ed filled it with a ship complete with cabin, masts, rigging, pitched rails, gun ports and a retractable rope ladder. Christening took place in the summer of 2008.
